What "Natural" Wedding Makeup Really Means
When a bride tells me she wants something natural, she often says it almost apologetically, as if she is asking for less. She is not. Natural is the hardest thing to do well.
Natural is not "no makeup"
Natural makeup is not the absence of work. It is skin that looks like skin, features brought forward rather than covered, and colour you sense more than see. Getting there takes more care, not less: preparation, light layers, and knowing what to leave alone.
The fear behind the word
Most brides who ask for natural are afraid of the opposite. A heavy, painted look they will not recognise. A face that photographs like a mask. Wanting to look like yourself on your wedding day is not modest. It is the whole point.
Reveal, do not cover
I do not paint a look onto a bride. I read the person first, then reveal the one already there. Your skin, your eyes, your features, simply clearer and calmer and lit from within. You should walk down the aisle and still be you.
Why natural lasts
Skin-true makeup, built in thin layers on well-prepared skin, holds better than a heavy one. There is less to move, crease or slide. It looks the same at midnight as it did at noon, in person and in every photograph.
Natural is not less. It is the most considered kind of makeup there is.
